Scholarships Together with the Mercedes Old Scholars' Association, we offer scholarships for new and continuing Mercedes College students.

Scholarships commence from Year 10. They are:

  • International Baccalaureate Scholarship
  • Mercedes College Old Scholars' Association Scholarship
  • Catherine McAuley Justice Scholarship

International Baccalaureate Scholarship | new students

An International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Scholarship is offered to students entering Year 10, yet not currently attending Mercedes College.

Reflective of the IB Diploma Programme that aims to develop students who have an excellent breadth and depth of knowledge, who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically, scholarships are awarded following assessment against three key criteria –

  1. Demonstrated history of outstanding academic achievement
  2. Fluent in a second language (eg French) or willing to study a second language (eg Spanish ab initio)
  3. Evidence of extracurricular activity in - Creativity (artistic endeavour), Action (member of a sporting club), Service (service work).

The scholarship is offered annually and provides remission of tuition fees.

Applications for 2023 are now open.


How to apply

Applicants, their parents, guardians and/or carers are required to provide a 500 word Personal Statement introducing themselves to the Scholarship Selection Committee and outlining their:

  1. Academic successes.
  2. Demonstrated attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
  3. Creativity – Activity – Service (contribution to the arts, sport and service to their current school).
  4. How they will contribute to Mercedes College.
  5. How they will benefit from an education at Mercedes College.

Applications are confidential to the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Three copies of the Personal Statement and following documentation are required:

  1. Applicant’s academic record for the end of the previous academic year.
  2. Evidence of positive contributions through Creativity – Activity – Service and participation in school life:
    • Artistic endeavour
    • Sporting club participation/membership
    • Service work.
  3. Name and contact details of two referees who can be contacted to validate and support the application (this could be your current school Principal or teacher, a community, sporting club or club leader).

Students short listed will be required to undertake a short critical thinking exercise and attend an interview with the Scholarship Selection Committee.

At the interview, the applicant will need to present a Personal Portfolio outlining their achievements, interests and affiliations to discuss.

We award the IB Diploma Scholarship to provide an enrolment opportunity for an outstanding student who would benefit from and contribute to an education at Mercedes College.

  1. As an IB world school, we will select a student who we believe will exemplify the IB Learner Profile and demonstrate service to the college.
  2. The scholarship will be awarded based on the criteria, which takes account of the applicant’s academic achievement. All criteria must be met and addressed in the written application.
  3. The successful applicant will be bound by the policies and guidelines required from all students enrolled at Mercedes College.
  4. Students will be required to abide by the strong values-centred education based on the tradition of the Mercy Keys: compassion, loyalty, justice, integrity, responsibility and mutual respect.

Mercedes College Old Scholars' Association Scholarship | new students

Every three years the Mercedes College Old Scholars' Association (MOSA) offers a scholarship to a student not currently attending Mercedes College.

This scholarship provides the opportunity for a student who may otherwise not be able to attend Mercedes College to complete their secondary schooling with us. The scholarship covers tuition fees, the capital levy and resource fee for Years 10, 11 and 12.

Applications for a MOSA Scholarship with entry at Year 10 in 2023, are now open.

The Mercedes College Old Scholars’ Association Scholarship covers tuition fees, capital levy and resource fee for Years 10, 11 and 12.

Criteria for Awarding the Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded taking into consideration the extent of which the applicant meets the criteria including the following:

  1. Financial (such as a low-income families who can access the School Card scheme or hardship as evidenced by 2020-21 financial year taxable income or three 2022 payslips), socioeconomic and compassionate circumstances. 
  2. Evidence of community involvement, such as commitment to faith or social justice or the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the Mercy values.
  3. Evidence of competence in academic studies.

The scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the Principal and the Mercedes Old Scholars’ Association mindful that:

  1. MOSA is awarding this Scholarship to provide an enrolment opportunity to a student who would benefit from and contribute to Catholic Education at Mercedes College.
  2. The MOSA Scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates a commitment to holistic education, preparing them for life, service, leadership and membership of the global community.
  3. The Scholarship will be awarded based on the criteria, which takes into account the merit and need of the eligible student. All criteria must be met and addressed in the written application for the awarding of the scholarship.
  4. The successful applicant will be bound by the same policies and guidelines required from all students enrolled at Mercedes College.
  5. The student will be required to abide by the strong values centred Catholic education based on the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy; the Mercy Keys of compassion, loyalty, justice, integrity, responsibility and mutual respect.

How to apply

Parents, guardians and/or carers of applicants are required to provide a 200 word Personal Statement outlining how they believe they will contribute to and benefit from an education at Mercedes College.

Three copies of the application, and the following documentation is required:

  1. Applicant’s school report for the end of the previous academic year.
  2. Name and address of two referees who can validate the application (this could include the school Principal or teacher, community leader, Parish Priest, sporting club or club leader).
  3. Documentation relating to the School Card scheme or hardship as evidenced by 2020-21 financial year taxable income, or three 2022 payslips.
  4. Relevant sacramental certificates for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist are not mandatory but may also be included if applicable.

Students short listed for an interview will be required to present a Personal Portfolio outlining their interests, affiliations and achievements to discuss with the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Catherine McAuley Justice Scholarship | continuing students

Each year, Catherine McAuley Justice Scholarships are available to existing students entering Year 10 and/or Year 11, providing opportunities to those who will continue to benefit from and contribute to Catholic education at the college.

Applications are assessed against three key criteria:

  1. Financial (such as a low-income families who can access the School Card scheme or hardship as evidenced by 2020-21 financial year taxable income or three 2022 payslips), socioeconomic, and compassionate circumstances.
  2. Involvement in own faith community.
  3. Evidence of potential talent in academic studies.

Offered annually, these scholarships provide remission of tuition fees.

Applications for 2023 will open later this year.
