Mercedes offers one IB Scholarship annually to an external student entering Year 10.

Scholarships

Mercedes College and the Mercedes Old Scholars' Association both offer scholarships. 

The following scholarships are currently available for 2021:

Year 10 IB Diploma Scholarship 

Mercedes College offers one IB Diploma Scholarship annually to an external student entering Year 10. 

“The IB Diploma Programme aims to develop students who have an excellent breadth and depth of knowledge, who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.” - ibo.org

Scholarships are awarded taking into consideration the extent to which the applicant meets all three of the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated history of outstanding academic achievement.
  • A second language at a MYP Phase 4 level or equivalent (French or Indonesian) OR willing to study a second language (Spanish ab initio).
  • Evidence of extra-curricular activity in: Creativity – artistic endeavour; Activity – member of a sporting club and Service – service work.  

The scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the Principal of Mercedes College. A scholarship shall not be awarded if, in the opinion of the Principal, no candidate is of sufficient merit.

Applicants are required to provide a 500 word Personal Statement introducing themselves to the Selection Committee outlining the following:

  • Academic successes
  • Demonstrated attributes of the IB Learner Profile
  • Creativity – Activity – Service (contribution to the arts, sport and service to current school)
  • How they will contribute to Mercedes College
  • How they will benefit from an education at Mercedes College

Three copies of the application and the following documentation are required:

  1. Applicant’s academic record for the end of the previous academic year. 
  2. Evidence of positive contributions through Creativity – Activity – Service and participation in school life: Artistic endeavour, Sporting club participation/membership, and/or Service work.
  3. Name and address of two referees who can be contacted to validate and support the application (this could include the school Principal or teacher, community leader, sporting club or club leader).

Students short listed will be required to undertake a short critical thinking exercise and attend an interview where a Personal Portfolio outlining their achievements, interests and affiliations to discuss with the Scholarship Selection Committee.
