Student Academic Achievements

Mercedes College is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of the 2018 Graduates in both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

We congratulate Isabelle de Savi as our College Dux having gained the maximum score of 45 points in her IB Diploma equating to the highest possible ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) of 99.95. This included Merits in all her subjects: English A HL, Indonesian B SL (completed in 2017), Economics HL, Biology SL, Chemistry HL and Mathematical Studies SL.

We also congratulate Alexandra Lewis as our SACE Dux with an ATAR of 98.55 and a Merit in English.

As an overall Year 12 cohort with combined SACE and IB results, 38.3% of students achieved an ATAR in the 90s, with 16.5% gaining a 95 or higher. A further 25% of students were in the 80s, resulting in nearly two thirds of the 2018 Year 12 cohort placing in the top 20% of students in Australia.

The mean ATAR in 2018 was 83.2 (median 86.3).

52 merits were gained by Year 12 students in the SACE and IB Diploma programmes. Our Year 11 students have also tasted success with 3 SACE students and 4 IB Diploma students gaining merits in Year 12 subjects.

IB Results

44 students successfully gained their IB Diploma with 59.1% of the graduates gaining an ATAR of 90 or higher. 27.3 % of the cohort gained an ATAR of 95 or higher.

A total of 42 Merits (maximum grade of 7) were gained in the IB Diploma (this includes Diploma and SACE students). 1 student gained Merits in all 6 subjects. 2 students gained Merits in 5 subjects.

Merits were achieved in English Literature, English B, Indonesian B, French B, Spanish B, Spanish ab initio, Business Management, Economics, History, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Mathematical Studies. 

4 Year 11 students gained Merits in French B and Indonesian B.

SACE Results

10 Year 12 SACE students included an IB subject as part of their certificate with many improving their ATARs following the inclusion of IB results. A total of 90 students successfully completed their SACE.

27.5% of SACE students exceeded an ATAR of 90 with 11% gaining a 95 or higher. A further 23% of students gained an ATAR in the 80s.

115 students across Year 11 and 12 SACE gained an A grade in at least one Year 12 subject. 34 Year 12 students gained As in at least three subjects with 12 students gaining As in five subjects.

A total of 10 A+ Merits were gained by our students, with six of these in Year 12 English. Merits were also gained in Beginners Italian and Research Project. The majority of Year 11 students submitted their Research Projects this year, with two students achieving A+ Merits.
