Student Academic Achievements 2020

Following the release of International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme results on 3 January 2021, following the SACE results on 15 December 2020, we are pleased to provide an updated summary of academic achievements of the Class of 2020.

We congratulate Elizabeth Chisholm as our 2020 College Dux having gained an ATAR of 99.2 following successful completion of the IB Diploma. Elizabeth gained 42 points from a maximum of 45 and included Merit scores in Economics HL, Biology HL, Chemistry HL and Mathematics SL.

We also congratulate Joshua Antony as our 2020 SACE Dux with an ATAR of 98.75.

All 16 IB students successfully gained their Diploma in 2020. 56% of IB graduates gained an ATAR of 90 or higher with 25% exceeding 95.

As 16 SACE students completed an IB subject, the release of IB results enables us to update student results and provide a summary of achievement for the combined 2020 cohort.

164 SACE students across Years 11 and 12 SACE gained an A grade in at least one Year 12 subject.

39% of students achieved an ATAR in the 90s with 16.2% gaining a 95 or higher.

A further 26.5% of students were in the 80s, resulting in nearly two thirds of the 2020 Year 12 cohort placed in the top 20% of students in Australia.

The mean ATAR for the 2020 cohort was 81.3 and the median ATAR was 85.1.

A total of 30 Merits were gained by the 2020 Year 12 cohort in the SACE and IB Diploma Programmes.

Our Year 11 students have also tasted success with eight SACE students gaining Merits in Research Project B and Visual Art: Design. Four Year 11 students gained Merits in Year 12 IB Diploma French B and Indonesian B.

We congratulate all our Year 12 students on their results from 2020 and thank the whole College community for their support. We particularly recognise all teaching and support staff who, in this challenging year, ensured the wellbeing and learning needs of students were given the highest priority.

2019 Academic Results

Mercedes College is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of the 2019 Graduates in both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

We congratulate Dylan Gong and Margot Hall as our College Duces having both gained 43 points in their IB Diploma equating to an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.60.

Dylan gained Merits in French B SL, Economics SL, Chemistry HL, Physics HL and Mathematics HL. Margot gained Merits in Indonesian B SL, English A Literature HL, Biology SL and Chemistry HL.

We also congratulate Charlotte Snook as our SACE Dux with an ATAR of 99.15 and a Merit in General Mathematics.

IB Results 

27 students successfully gained their IB Diploma with 56% of the graduates gaining an ATAR of 90 or higher. An impressive 33% of the cohort gained an ATAR of 95 or higher.

A total of 32 Merits (maximum grade of 7) were gained in the IB Diploma, and one student gained Merits in five subjects. Merits were achieved in English A Literature, English B, Indonesian B, French B, Economics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Mathematical Studies.

SACE Results

13 Year 12 SACE students included an IB subject as part of their certificate with many improving their ATARs following the inclusion of IB results.

35% of SACE students exceeded an ATAR of 90 with 14% gaining a 95 or higher. A further 16% of students gained an ATAR in the 80s.

137 students across Year 11 and 12 SACE gained an A grade in at least one Year 12 subject. 34 Year 12 students gained As in at least three subjects with 6 students gaining As in five subjects.

A total of 15 A+ Merits were gained by our students, with five of these in Year 12 English. Merits were also gained in Essential Mathematics, General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Business & Enterprise and Research Project. The majority of Year 11 students submitted their Research Projects this year, with three students achieving A+ Merits.

Overall Class of 2019 Results 

As an overall Year 12 cohort, with combined SACE and IB results, 39% of students achieved an ATAR in the 90s, with 18% gaining a 95 or higher. A further 18% of students were in the 80s. 

The mean ATAR in 2019 was 79.7 and the median was 84.1.
