SALA 2021: Old worlds, new worlds, other worlds

South Australian Living Artists Festival (SALA) School Exhibition 2021

This year Mercedes College is thrilled to hold our second digital online SALA exhibition. The exhibition of art, media, design and music, created by Mercedes College Junior, Middle, and Senior School students, reflects their thoughts and understandings of the Childrens Book Council Australia (CBCA) book week theme Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds. The theme has tremendous scope for students to investigate and look back to the past, reflect on and consider the present, and then let their imaginations soar off into the future.

Mercedes College provides a strong values-centred Catholic education based on the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy. The Keys of Compassion, Loyalty, Justice, Integrity, Responsibility, and Mutual Respect are core values that are an integral part of the way of life for all members of the Mercedes community.

In 2021, the Mercy Key of Justice is our focus. We demonstrate justice when we act with fairness and are willing to speak up for our rights and the dignity of others. In our exploration of the book week theme we asked students to consider justice in their lives and others with a past, present and future focus. The art works you see are diverse in context but all share a consideration of what it means to live a life of justice.

The Mercedes Arts Faculty is a dynamic and flourishing team that strives to showcase the wonderful work and dedicaton of our students. I officially welcome you to the 2021 Mercedes College SALA Exhibition. I hope you enjoy what you see!
