Next Tuesday 22 September, our whole College community is invited to wear their House Colours as part of Mercy Week!
Students wear ‘casual’ clothes to school – in their House colours. and bring along a gold coin donation to support Mercy Works.
All money raised will support women and men experiencing homelessness, through Catherine House and Adelaide Day Centre, as well as refugees through the Kilburn Centre.
It will be a busy day on our Campus:

We are delighted to celebrate the efforts of our Mercedes Green Primary Chess Team, who were crowned C-Grade State Champions last week!
Congratulations George (Year 5, Dalton), Jeremy (Year 6, Fitzpatrick), Jack (Year 6, McAuley), Molly (Year 2, McAuley), and Platon (Year 3, Fitzpatrick) on this great result.
It was well deserved, after a season of commitment and training under Coach David Koetsier from Chess Life Academy.
Our Year 6 students recently had a great day exploring Parliament House and learning more about the history of Parliament, how decisions are made and the way these impact people’s day-to-day lives.
It was a natural extension to their classroom studies and complements recent visits from local Members of Parliament. This experience all adds to the excitement that is building for the Year 6 trip to Canberra in Term 4, where they will learn more about our Nation’s capital and government structure.
Every two years, Educate+ hosts an international Conference for education professionals in the areas of Marketing, Communications, Enrolments, People and Culture, Alumni and Fundraising.
Part of this conference are the Excellence Awards. Educate+ received nearly 400 submissions from schools in Australia, New Zealand and Asia… and Mercedes College won the Marketing & Communications Digital Campaign Award!
Our submission was for our online Social Media campaign ‘Behind the Hedge’.
Thank you to the students and teachers who happily took part in this campaign – you all brought the energy and joy!
Recently, our Reception students connected their visual arts studies with their Unit of Inquiry about Community, by exploring the places around our College that help bring people together.
Using photographs as references, students traced iconic locations onto acetate to make cyanotype prints, before adding collage and drawings to create final displays of places like Mary in the Rose Garden, Peppertree Playground and Strathspey House.

One of the most significant events on our College calendar is Our Lady of Mercy Mass and our families are invited to join us.

Our annual STEP Trek to the Mimili community of the APY Lands, has been another great success, with our students and crew returning to our College last Friday. Our Junior School students made ‘Welcome Back’ posters and cheered as the buses rolled back onto our Campus.
Celebrating 30 years in 2027, this long-standing relationship between Mercedes College and the people of Mimili, provides our students with the opportunity to experience Anangu culture in an authentic and immersive way. It also helps them develop a greater appreciation for culture, diversity and connection to country.

Recently, three Mercedes College students travelled to the Gold Coast to participate in the Federation of International Sport Aerobics and Fitness (FISAF) National Championships.
Representing Linden Park Sports Aerobics, Mila (Year 4, McAuley), Murphy (Year 8, Barry) and Sienna (Year 4, McAuley) were rewarded for their hard work, with brilliant results against more than 30 clubs and 1,000 participants from across the country. There were over 840 routines performed under the careful eyes of 29 judges.
Mila’s team ‘Luminous’, placed sixth in their division, with Murphy’s team ‘Locked In’ taking out a first-place win. Sienna also recorded a first-place win with her team ‘Lovestruck’, as well as coming fifth with her trio, ‘Limitless’.
Bravo all!
This week, 20 of our Senior students volunteered their time to help at the Variety Kids’ Picnic at Adelaide Zoo, making this special day truly memorable for South Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged, or living with a disability.
Every year, our students help children explore animal exhibits, take part in games and hang out with mascot characters to add to the fun and excitement of the day.
This activity forms part of the service to community that our Senior students get involved with – where we focus on not only what they want to become in their final years, but what they can do for others.
During the two-week break, our Tennis and Basketball Directors are running holiday clinics.
These are a great way to brush up on your technique and learn new skills. Places are limited, so sign up soon to book your spot.

As we prepare to say farewell to our Year 12 Performing Arts students, we are turning our minds to our bands and choirs for 2027.

Now that we have finished our Winter Sport season, we are inviting all students who took part and their families to our end-of-season presentation evenings for the announcement of our MVPs and Mercy Awards.
