If a child needs a little extra support, or needs to be stretched to reach their ability, our experienced Learning Enrichment Team provide the expertise and insights to support their learning journey. Working closely with our Wellbeing Team, as well as Heads of School and Year Level Leaders, our Learning Enrichment Team ensures that all students are seen, heard and supported.

Supporting Every Learner, Every Step of the Way

At Mercedes College, we know that every child learns differently. Some students may need extra support at certain times, while others thrive when their learning is extended and challenged. Our Learning Enrichment Team is dedicated to ensuring every student feels confident, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Working closely with families, teachers, our Wellbeing Team, Heads of School, and Year Level Leaders, we take a whole-child approach to learning. This ensures that every student is known, understood, and supported throughout their journey from Reception to Year 12

A Caring and Collaborative Approach

Our experienced Learning Enrichment Team works alongside classroom teachers to provide personalised support that responds to each child’s strengths and needs.

We support:

  • Students with additional learning needs
  • Students who speak English as an additional language
  • Students requiring extension and enrichment

Our goal is to create an inclusive learning environment where every child has access to high-quality teaching and the opportunity to succeed.

Early Support Through an Evidence-Based Framework

Mercedes College uses a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) to identify and respond to students’ learning needs early.

This evidence-based approach allows us to:

  • Provide high-quality, differentiated teaching in every classroom
  • Identify students who may benefit from targeted support in areas such as literacy, numeracy, or social skills
  • Deliver timely and appropriate interventions
  • Monitor progress and adjust support to ensure it is effective

Most students’ needs are met through high-quality classroom teaching and small adjustments. Some students may receive short-term small-group support, while others benefit from more individualised instruction tailored to their learning profile.

Multi-Tiered System of Support

Tier 1 – all our students benefit from high quality, differentiated teaching in the classroom, with close monitoring, and regular classroom adjustments, as needed

Tier 2 – some students require additional support, delivered in small groups for targeted areas of learning until a concept is mastered. This support in the learning context, helps with overall student wellbeing

Tier 3 – a few students require individual instruction, which may include functional skill development, individualised curriculum, or personalised assessment goals. These students receive the Learning Enrichment as well as the Counselling support they need.

Personalised Plans for Learning (PPL)

Students identified as needing additional support receive a Personalised Plan for Learning (PPL). Each student with a PPL is supported by a dedicated Case Manager, who works closely with the student, their family, and teachers.

PPLs are:

  • Developed in collaboration with families, students, and allied health professionals where appropriate
  • Accessible to families at any time
  • Formally discussed during two scheduled meetings each year
  • Regularly reviewed to ensure they remain relevant and responsive

This personalised approach ensures every child is supported with care, consistency, and a thorough understanding of their individual goals and achievements.

Nurturing Talent and Igniting Potential

We are equally committed to supporting students who demonstrate high potential, giftedness, or exceptional talents.

We understand these abilities may not always be reflected in test results, so we use a broad range of measures to identify and support high-potential learners.

The support structures we have in place, working alongside our teachers, Heads of School and Wellbeing Team allow every student to be seen and supported, no matter where they are in their learning journey at Mercedes. We believe that all learning needs to be engaging and rewarding and we put support structures around those students who need them, to ensure they feel included in all aspects of College life – both in and outside the classroom.
