We are just over half-way through Intercol 26 – what a week it has been already!
We have run through the mud, shared strong arguments, played strategically, sung our hearts out and played the ‘beautiful game’!
Tonight belongs to Netball and Table Tennis – all the action starts at 4pm, with the last game – the Open A Netball – starting at 7pm. Our ‘Camel Café’ will be open and the BBQ will be sizzling from 3.30pm – so come out and cheer our teams on.
We have two days left – Football tomorrow night and the final day on Saturday for Basketball, more soccer and football. It will all come down to the last day!

We are delighted to introduce our four College Captains for 2027.
After undergoing a panel interview, our finalists gave a presentation to their fellow students and then the voting process began.
Meet Lucy (Fitzpatrick), Lucas (Dalton), Charlie (Dalton) and Alice (Fitzpatrick).
Charlie has recently represented the State in Football, Lucy is often performing on stage, Lucas is training to be a student pilot and Alice loves playing netball!
We look forward to inducting our Captains later this year and to their leadership of the College in 2027.
Next week is Book Week – one of the highlights on our Junior School calendar and the theme this year is Symphony of Stories. It is a wonderful week for our students to celebrate reading and enjoy the delight of immersing themselves in a ‘good book’.
Throughout the week, our Junior School students will enjoy a range of special Book Week experiences including PJ day – for teachers and students – mystery readers, buddy activities, virtual author webinars, ending the week with the ever-popular Book Week Parade on Friday 28 August, which is taking place in Gleeson Theatre.
After the Parade, our Reception to Year 6 students will walk around the Campus and share their infectious joy and costumes with the rest of our students and staff.
Yesterday, we welcomed Sr Meredith Evans and Sr Patricia Fox (past student) to the College.
They shared a Mass with Father John Shanahan and our Year 2 students, before heading off on a Tour of the Campus, to see the ‘old and the new’ with our Middle School Leaders.
At the end of the morning, everyone shared morning tea, including our Social Justice Leaders from the Junior School.
It was a wonderful chance for both the Sisters and our students to share stories, learn from each other and spend some time talking all things Mercedes.
Earlier this week, several of our students spent time with Kaurna man, Jack Buckskin, to take part in a video, as part of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
Our students have been involved in drafting the College’s Acknowledgement of Country and we invited Jack to share stories and insights on Kaurna culture, tradition and history, including a cleansing ceremony, ocre paint and history of the didgeridoo.
It was a meaningful and inspiring way to bring our Acknowledgement of Country to life.
We look forward to sharing this video with you and other initiatives as part of our RAP.
Last week, three of our Open Teams made it to a Grand Final – Football, Netball and Basketball – which is a brilliant achievement.
Whilst we didn’t come away with the win in Football and Basketball, our Open A Netball Team kept everyone in suspense right down to the last second.
The final score was 43 – 42, in overtime, in a tightly contested battle against St Michael’s.
It was everything a Grand Final should be – both teams played superbly, going goal for goal, but our girls showed amazing skill and persistence, holding their nerve until the final whistle.
Well done to all our Golden Girls, and to Match MVP Sofia (Year 12, Fitzpatrick).
Congratulations also to our 7D Netball Team who also won their Grand Final last week. They played Sacred Heart and came away with the win – 23-17.

House spirit is alive and well at Mercedes – and every Term, we focus on a different aspect of College life.
Our House activity for Term 3 is Academia, which took place during our Languages Week and was the highlight event at the end of the week.
Students from Reception to Year 12 formed into small groups to take part in a Languages Quiz, and the results were one of the closest in all of our House activities.
McAuley came away with the win, just ahead of Dalton in second, with Barry and Fitzpatrick following in 3rd and 4th respectively.
Our House activity for Term 4 is Social Justice.
On Saturday 24 October, we will be celebrating our MOSA Night of Reunions at Adelaide Oval.
Old Scholars from 2021, 2016, 2006, 1996, 1986, 1976 are invited to come along and re-live Mercedes memories, in a corporate suite, overlooking the beautiful Oval. There will be food, drink and lots of conversation – and a great opportunity to re-connect with your year level.

It’s National Science Week and the theme was “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All”. A great time to celebrate science and our students.
This year, more than 35 Mercedes students participated in the Oliphant Science Awards, showcasing their scientific knowledge, creativity and curiosity, along with 3,000 entries from around South Australia.
Congratulations to Jerry (Year 1, McAuley), who was a prize winner in the Models and Inventions category, and Molly (Year 2, McAuley), who was a prize winner in the Scientific Writing category.
Our Middle School students also achieved fantastic results, with Caitlyn (Year 6, Fitzpatrick) receiving a Highly Commended in Models and Inventions and Evie (Year 7, McAuley) receiving a Highly Commended in Photography.
Bravo to all our students for taking part and achieving such brilliant results!
You only have a few days left to nominate someone from our community for our annual Mercedes College Mercy Award.
We’d love you to nominate someone who contributes to study, research, paid work or community service, as part of our Mercedes College community who demonstrates our six Mercy Keys.
This Award recognises effort that is ‘above and beyond’, from someone who demonstrates humility, leadership, warmth and hospitality.

Nominations close 5pm Monday 24 August 2026.
Next month, we will be celebrating all Mercedes dads, at our annual Father’s Day Breakfast.
On Thursday 3 September from 7.30am, all dads and their children are invited to come along to the Junior School Hall to enjoy some warm breakfast fare and a barista made coffee and of course have the mandatory ‘dad’ photo. Dad jokes are also encouraged!
