Looking at the Year Ahead

By

Welcome to a new school year, a year full of anticipation, of discoveries to be made and milestones to be achieved.

With the world moving through uncharted waters following Brexit in the UK and President Trump’s presidency of the United States of America, developing an understanding of the diverse cultures and religions throughout the world, may remove the ignorance and fear of people culturally different to us and lead us towards an harmonious living with all global citizens. With this in mind, the College has taken as its focus for the year International Mindedness through the Mercy Key of Mutual Respect.

Peter, the Apostle, to whom Jesus said ‘you are Peter, the rock, and on this rock I will build my Church’, was internationally minded as demonstrated when he accepted the centurion Cornelius, a gentile and not kosher in his cuisine, to be baptised as a follower of Jesus.

St Paul then went further by going on an international travel making known the one true God revealed through Jesus. Paul did not seek to change the culture and celebrations of people in surrounding nations but to offer the peace of the monotheistic God of Abraham. (When in Rome, do as the Romans do. – St Ambrose).

As we go about our study and our work this year, let us be a people who are welcoming of others, respect differences in cultural backgrounds and learn from the riches that diversity offers us. As Australians we can indeed rejoice the cosmopolitan nature that our society has evolved into.

God Bless.
