Being a Homestay host is rewarding
Host families provide a supportive home environment for international students aged 14+ years.
Having chosen to study at Mercedes College, our team works with our Homestay hosts to make the experience great for everyone.
Our host families include singles, couples, families with children, empty nesters and retirees.
What they all have in common is providing a home that’s welcoming, safe, and supportive.
Hosts enjoy learning about a new culture, customs and traditions as well as meeting other Homestay families and seeing Adelaide and South Australia through fresh eyes!
Homestay hosts receive $330 per week, per student, for the cost of food, hosting, and your care.
The ATO and Centrelink do not consider this as taxable income, rather reimbursement, as each student requires:
- A bedroom.
- Use of shared living spaces.
- Meals and snacks.
- Fresh linen, and laundry service.
- Kindness and support.

All families are screened to ensure they can provide a safe and secure environment, so each student can flourish while living away from home.
