Dear Parents, Caregivers, Staff and Students of the Mercedes College Community
Last week our Year 5 students presented their International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) Exhibition. The central idea was Systems of the Body. The student displays and presentations were sensational. Their understanding of the different systems of the body was quite remarkable given that many displayed an understanding that generally is not expected until senior levels. Read more >

Closing of the Mercy Door

Sunday week will see the conclusion of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy and here, in the Archdiocese of Adelaide, the event will be marked with the closing of the Door of Mercy during the 11.00am Mass at St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral.

Canberra Trip

Our Year 7 students spent Week 2 away in Canberra, with a week packed full of visits to Old and New Parliament House, Government House, the National Portrait Gallery, Questacon, the Australian Institute of Sport, the High Court of Australia, the Canberra Space Centre, the National Dinosaur Museum, the National Film and Sound Archives, the National Mint and the Australian War Memorial.

A Well Connected Cohort

Last week our Year 10 students engaged positively in their Retreat for 2016. In visiting the students as they took a break for lunch or discussed together the values they hold dear, it was clear to me that this cohort of young men and women are well connected to each other.

20/20 Cricket

Mercedes competed against Sacred Heart in their first match for the 20/20 Knockout Competition. Sacred Heart won the toss and elected to bat and their openers started strongly with a 56 run partnership in the first 7 overs.

“Never look down on anyone, unless you are helping them up” (Jesse Jackson, civil rights activist) is a quote that I often refer to in my everyday life. In the past couple of weeks at sport I have noticed many of the students at Mercedes helping each other.

State Winner

In Term 3 students from Reception to Year 5 were involved in the French Poetry Competition. The competition, run by the South Australian French Teachers Association, involves learning a French poem off by heart and reciting it with expression and correct pronunciation.
