Change to student absentee notifications

The College is implementing an automated mobile phone messaging system to communicate student absences.

All absentee notifications are required to be communicated via SMS 0419 914 398 or email attendance@mercedes.catholic.edu.au. The following information will be required when notifying the school of your child’s absence:

  • Full name of student
  • Reason for absentee
  • Date of absentee

Please refer to the student diary/planner for further details.

Diaries, green slips and emails to Home Group/Tutor Group teachers/Year Level Coordinators will no longer be accepted as communication of absentees.

Students arriving after 8:50am are required to sign in at Strathspey Reception (Reception - Year 5) or the McAuley Office (Years 6-12).

The automated SMS is designed to inform parents that according to school records, the student is absent and no reason has been provided to the school. If an absent reason has been provided, parents will not receive an SMS.

Permission for prolonged absences, for example family holidays, must be addressed via a letter of request to the Principal and may require an Exemption from School form to be completed.

If you have any questions please email the Attendance Officer on attendance@mercedes.catholic.edu.au
