Smiling faces ready to flourish

By Andrew Balkwill

Thank you to our teachers and wider team for the great welcome back to school for our students and their families.

It has been a delight to see so many excited, happy, and smiling faces on campus this week, and to chat with families Wednesday morning in the Rose Garden.

This year we welcome around 200 new students to the College, across every level. Thank you for choosing Mercedes College.

High support, high expectations

By starting the year as we mean to finish it, students can best understand the expectations we have of them while in our care. At Mercedes College we enjoy a reputation for excellence, and we’re renown for supporting students to flourish through consistent effort, a positive attitude, determination to achieve their personal best, and accountability.

These high expectations are underpinned by high support and our Mercy Keys. Thank you for ensuring your children wear their uniforms with pride, care for and polish their shoes and keep their hair neat and tidy, arriving on time and ready to learn each morning.

At Mercedes College we believe every student can achieve their personal best and this will be a focus of our teachers in 2023 as we’re here to challenge and help them to flourish. As learning partners, please get touch with your child’s classroom or home group teacher if any issues arise so we can address them swiftly.

Join in

A key part of flourishing happens by children discovering what they enjoy and like doing in the classroom and outside it. Curriculum Extension Activities play an important part in providing fun activities that grow student’s skills and breadth of experiences and build lasting relationships. By encouraging your children to participate in a wide range of activities, they will gain the most from their time at Mercedes College.

You’re can get involved too! There are so many ways for families to be involved – from coaching or managing a team, mentoring a student, supporting learning experiences, to supporting community events – and all of them are enormously rewarding.

If you would like to find out more about volunteering at Mercedes, please get in touch with Alisha Hart (ahart@mercedes.catholic.edu.au or call 8372 3200), so that we can help you navigate the mandatory steps of volunteering within a school setting.

College Council

Please cast your vote in our 2023 College Council election. With 3 candidates running for 2 vacancies, it’s you – our parents/caregivers – who decided who our parent-elected members are.

Our College Council has strategic oversight of Mercedes, with members appointed for 3 years with the right to re-election or re-appointment.

Check SEQTA Engage direqt message to find out more, and cast your vote before 9am Monday 6 February 2023.
