Nathan Bassett joins us as Director of Football

Passionate Director of Football to better develop young player's understanding and enjoyment of Australian Rules Football.

Our new Director of Football is Nathan Bassett, a veteran of 210 AFL games for Adelaide between 1998-2008. Nathan has since moved from playing to coaching where he's been Norwood's coach between 2010-13, with Essendon from 2014-15 as an assistant coach before joining Port Adelaide in 2016, where he continues as assistant coach.

Since establishing the Nathan Bassett Football Academy, he has worked with Westminster, Scotch College, Goodwood Saints, Glenunga and the Unley football clubs.

Having run private coaching clinics as well as designed and implemented football programs for the requirements of schools and clubs, he is passionate about the importance of junior coaching to better develop young people’s understanding and enjoyment of Australian Rules Football.

Nathan is excited about positioning our program to enhance the talent within each individual player and coach.

Aligned with our Strategic Plan to 2025, our Directors of Sport work with our Sport Coordinators to develop, document, and implement even better Mercedes College’s Sport and Coaching Programmes.

Directors facilitate student engagement through mentoring and developing our coaches, and provide a framework that promotes capability development, clearly articulating skill progression, tactics, understanding and approaches that cater for the diversity of student engagement.
