Giving to Mercedes College As we approach 70 years of Mercedes College, we have a clear vision for our future.
Community > Giving to Mercedes College

With a large campus, beautiful gardens, and ongoing investment in infrastructure and technology, community donations are always welcome.

Giving takes many forms. You may choose to contribute by making a financial donation, giving in kind, through our partner programs, volunteering or simply attending events and functions. Everyone's contribution is valued.

Ways to give

From bequests to gifts and donations, everyone can support the college, including when you buy school and sports shoes. It’s as easy as shopping at The Athletes Foot (Burnside store) who donate $5 from every child’s school and/or sports shoe sale to the college – just let them know you’re part of our community.

Another college partner is the Credit Union of SA. As beneficiary of their School Community Rewards Programme, they donate 0.20 per cent of all Mercedes College families’ home, car or personal loan amounts to us each month.

In 2021, that was around $20,000! Participating is easy, simply nominate Mercedes College as your School Community Rewards beneficiary when you take advantage of their loan products.

Both partner programs provide a valuable financial benefit to Mercedes College that’s invested across our campus. Funds raised during 2022 will supplement the allocation to our new Arts and Sports Precinct. With the build of set to start this year, there will be further opportunities for everyone to contribute, including through our Annual Giving Programme.

You can also support our Student Mentoring Programme and donate to the MOSA Scholarship.

During Mercedes College’s rich history, development across our campus has been made possible by the generosity of parents, old scholars, our team and wider community. Projects and ongoing investment in student learning is made possible each year by the generosity of many, and strong tradition of community support.

Volunteer to be a mentor

Our Student Mentoring Programme fosters a sense of belonging and enables community participation, creating a valuable sense of wellbeing and connection for our young people.

Through one-on-one guidance and support reflective of students’ diverse academic and personal needs, mentors foster positive relationships in a safe environment, to help build strengths, interests and learning abilities.

You can become a mentor and contribute to positive student experiences.

All volunteers are required to complete the Mentor Details Form Online, undertake a Working with Children Check including a Catholic Schools Police Clearance and referee check plus participate in an orientation and training session led by our programme coordinator about the responsibilities of the role.

Mentors also need to complete either an online or a face-to-face volunteer induction in recognising and responding to risks of harm, abuse and neglect at school and be familiar with the College’s Work Health, Safety and Privacy requirements.

Year 12 students can be mentors too. From the start of the academic year, Year 12 students can be mentors where connection and wellbeing are the focus, by dedicating one of their weekly study periods to the programme.
Student mentor involvement can be recognised as part of the:

  1. International Baccalaureate Diploma Creativity, Activity, Service requirements.
  2. South Australian Certificate of Education Community Studies Unit.
  3. Community service within the college.
